Leith

Leith is part of Edinburgh – and separate…

It is a dynamic place where people live, work and visit – to shop, eat and see the sights.

In terms of the proposed EP route it will be a LONG time before there is a route close to the Forth.

Until then there are various possible routes involving existing ‘railway paths’, quiet roads and the Council’s Family Cycle Network off-road paths from Leith Links to Porty.

The first stage is to get to Sandport Place – past Ocean Terminal and Victoria Quay or via the NEPN and the Water of Leith Walkway.

Undoubtedly interesting to visit (with all the places to eat and drink on The Shore),

it’s then easy to follow FCN route 10 to Leith Links and on to Seafield Crematorium and Porty.

Unfortunately the first part involves a few streets with setts in far from perfect condition!

A decent route closer to ‘the sea’ would (probably) be better.

The on-road section between Constitution Street and Links Gardens Lane still needs work to make it ‘cycle friendly’.

After that it’s ‘off road’ all the way to Joppa – apart from Seafield Street. Here it should one day be possible to continue through the former Northern General site –
