Leith Docks is still a working port.
It is also a significant on-going development site.
Plans for masses of housing and energy generation come and go.
Existing ‘trip generators’ include Victoria Quay (large numbers of Scottish Government civil servants) and Ocean Terminal (shopping and Britannia).
There is reasonable provision for walking and cycling from Western Harbour through to The Shore.
Long term EP plans include bridging the ship lock and a new route around the shoreline perimeter.
This will not happen any time soon (if ever) and existing paths/routes need to be improved (not least with signage).
Consideration should be given to corridor(s) from Western Harbour eastwards, (particularly The Shore to Marine Esplanade) avoiding both Seafield Road and the working dock areas.
The first section is messy with an ill-defined route to and past Ocean Terminal.
Then interesting detours
and things to see
Moving onwards there are some good intentions –
but they have been compromised –
The official EP plan is to go around the outside of the docks. In the meantime this route could be a good alternative.
